Detailed description of project Back

The Solomon Islands Education Sector Investment and Reform Programme (ESIRP) is a sector wide programme financed through a combined basket of donor funding, under the auspices of MEHRD. The overall objectives of the contract are to:

  • Increase the capacity of SICHE (Solomon Islands College of Higher Education) to be a high quality cost effective post secondary institution serving the economic development needs of the Solomon Islands;
  • Review and reform the curriculum in use in the primary and secondary educational institutions.

The specific objectives include:

Solomon Islands College of Higher Education

  • To assist in the re-establishment of SICHE as a viable, relevant and cost effective institution;
  • Assisting the development of the College Development Plan following the USP Solutions Report arising from the Framework Contract;
  • Assisting in the development of a continuous academic and curriculum review process;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of plans to rationalise administrative support services, provide staff development as part of a comprehensive HRD programme and introduce performance related incentive programmes;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a quality assurance programme;
  • To assist in the development and management of proposed institutional links with USP/educ. Institutions.

Curriculum Development Centre

  • To assist the Director and his staff in the efficient organisation and administration of the Curriculum Review and Reform Programme at primary and secondary levels;
  • To assist in the development of appropriate teaching methodologies for a learner focussed curriculum;
  • To assist in the design/development of outcomes-based syllabuses for primary/secondary school levels;
  • To assist in the development and production of high quality culturally relevant curriculum materials;
  • To assist in the design of efficient and cost effective in service programmes;
  • To assist in the development of professional collaboration between CDC and the School of Education and ensuring that CDC programmes/methodologies/materials are incorporated into their programmes.

  • Management Adviser (2 years);
  • Corporate Services Adviser (2 years).

Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development, Curriculum Development Centre

  • Primary Education Curriculum Development Adviser (4 years);
  • Secondary Education Curriculum Development Adviser (4 years).
