Detailed description of project Back

The CML 3002 (PISE II) financing agreement was signed in March 2007 for an amount of € 17 million. The program included 3 areas of intervention:

  • A sectoral budget support component targeting basic education;
  • A capacity building component comprising 2 components: (i) support for steering the education system; (ii) support for teacher training (initial and continuing training), particularly with regard to French;
  • A component focused on supporting the development of a vocational training policy in the Kayes region.

The evaluation will focus on axes 2 and 3 of the program.

The PISE III program is a continuation of PISE II. The financing agreement was signed in December 2010 for an amount of € 8 million. PISE III focuses on the development of General Secondary Education (ESG) and consist of 3 components:

  • Sector Budget Support;
  • A second component aimed at improving the offer of ESG (construction/rehabilitation of high schools, equipment);
  • A third component aimed at improving the quality of ESG in terms of teaching in scientific disciplines, by equipping laboratories, supporting the development and dissemination of practical self-training guides intended for to teachers, supply of textbooks and books corresponding to the revised curriculum.

This evaluation will only focus on components 2 and 3 of PISE III, and therefore on infrastructure activities and the supply of school equipment.

Type of services provided

Standard evaluation work based on a three-step process:

  • Structure the evaluation process;
  • Conduct the evaluative analysis;
  • Present the conclusions of the evaluative work and the recommendations.
