The general objective of the 2nd focal area is to assure democracy, peace and security, in a framework for balanced development, through higher levels of regional political cooperation. The importance of peace, security and good governance as prerequisites for development are outlined in the Joint EU-Africa Strategy (JEAS) as well as in the main SADC Strategic Documents – Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) and the Strategic Indicative Plan for the Organ (SIPO). As such, the 10th EDF Programme on Regional Political Cooperation (RPC) intends to bolster the regional pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) through supporting implementation of the peace, security and conflict prevention agenda at the SADC level as well as associated flanking policies.
