Detailed description of project Back
The Ministry of Basic Education and Literacy (MEBA), in consultation with the technical and financial partners, elaborated a ten year programme for the development of education (PDDE) for the period 2003-2013. As such this programme constitutes now the framework for all interventions in the education sector. The implementation of the PDDE will contribute to the chances of success of the new education policy and the reform of the education system to adapt it to the socio-economic and cultural realities of the country.
Within this framework, Lux-Development, the implementing agency of the Luxembourg Cooperation, has implemented a project NIG/011 Schools and Health II (June 2001 – August 2005) following an earlier intervention in the sector (October 1997 – December 2002). Its overall objective is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of basic education in Niger by improving the social and health environment and the hygiene of the pupils in basic education in the district of Dosso and the municipality of Dosso.
The government of Niger made a request to follow this project up with a new phase. With reference to the objectives of the PDDE, the experience and results of the preceding projects and the requests of the beneficiaries, this request proposes a consolidation of the results of the preceding project and its extension to a second district in the region and to the second cycle of basic education (the three years after primary school).
The formulation mission has as objective to formulate an intervention corresponding to a third phase of regional support to the PDDE as set out in the proposal of the government of Niger, integrated in the context of decentralisation, but as well considering the possibilities of a better integration with the other Lux-Development programmes in the region (Integrated rural development).
