Detailed description of project Back
Education has consistently been one of the top priorities of the Eritrean Government, since the country gained its independence in 1993. During 2003, the Government presented donors with a comprehensive strategy for the sector and a 5-year plan for rehabilitating and expanding education services provision, focusing on basic education, secondary education, vocational education and training, and capacity building of the MoE at both national and zoba levels. The European Commission pledged €53M in support of the ESDP, divided into two instalments: a first one of €30M under the 9th ED, and a second one of €23M under the 10th EDF, from 2007 on.
This mission is divided into two phases. During phase one, the consultants will review the Government of the State of Eritrea’s (GSE) strategy and policy documents and identify areas in which the EC could provide added value or in which EC financing should be particularly appropriate. The second phase of the mission will have to identify specific components of the programme that should be financed by the EC. The final result of this second phase will be a financing proposal agreed upon with the Commission and the Eritrean Authorities.
