Detailed description of project Back
The South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) is the umbrella body of a network of over 95 member organisations that strive to enhance the lives of all South Africans with visual impairments. This is achieved through prevention of blindness, education, skills development, raising awareness, and empowerment of a marginalised group. The Biennial Conference, otherwise known as “The Blind Parliament” is the forum at which representatives from these member organisations debate key and critical issues affecting the sector, and collaboratively determines the organisational policy and strategy for the ensuing two-year period.
The Biennial Conference is the ultimate decision-making body of the organisation and the organisation is bound by its Constitution to convene this conference every two years. The Constitution further demands that 50% of these member organisations attend in order for the conference to be quorate.Over time, it has become increasingly difficult to attain a quorum since many of the member organisations operate at the level of self-help groups and struggle to find the necessary funding to participate.
The overall objective of the assignment is to provide short-term logistical support to make all the required arrangements in preparation of the 39th Biennial Conference, 12-15 October 2009, South Africa.
The Key Experts are expected to work in close cooperation with a team from the SANCB and where required, DAC
