Detailed description of project Back
On the 4th of February 2016, the Government of Jordan presented “The Jordan Compact” and a “New Holistic Approach between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the International Community to deal with the Syrian Refugee Crisis” at the Supporting Syria and the Region Conference in London.
Inside this compact, the international community and Jordan agreed to support a landmark commitment to ensure that every child in Jordan will be in education in the 2016/17 school year.
In August 2016 the Governments of Norway, the USA (USAID) and the UK (DFID) joined together with the Government of Jordan to deliver the “Accelerating Access to Quality Formal Education for Syrian Refugee Children” through a programme titled “The Jordan Compact Education Fund” (JCEF). The JCEF is delivered through pooling funds into a special account in the Ministry of Education’s name at the Central Bank of Jordan. Other donors are expected to join this joint programme in the coming months. The JCEP is joined by the KfW program “Financing of salaries in support of Accelerating Access for Syrian refugee children to formal education” and earmarked support for teacher salaries funded through a separate special account with financial assistance from the Government of Germany.
In October 2016 the Ministry of Education in Jordan brought together Ministry of Education officials with leading education specialists from UN agencies, NGO, INGOs, Donors and multilaterals to agree on one Common Results Framework for tracking progress on the commitments inside the Jordan Compact.
