The overall objective of the project is to improve the skills and competencies of staff in general in the financial services sector in Yemen in order to meet labour market needs following the partial liberalization of the banking sector by the Central Bank.The project aims at upgrading the capability and capacity of the Institute of Banking Studies, the sole inter-bank training provider and located in Sana’a.

The project’s specific objectives will be:

  • To reform the Institute’s activities and upgrade its facilities to give a professional and effective service to both its shareholders and bank employees;
  • To enhance the managerial effectiveness of senior bank management through the creation of General Management Development Programmes;
  • To upgrade the qualifications and knowledge of general bank employees, specifically targeted to those who have work experience but not a third level qualification;
  • To upgrade the qualifications and knowledge of middle management through the development of adapted programmes.

Type of services provided

Key services provided include:

  • Diagnostic appraisal of the IBS;
  • Development and implementation of a strategic business plan for the IBS (Organisation and Personnel plan, Administrative plan, Financial plan, Curriculum Development plan, Marketing plan): a/o
  • Upgrading of technical and training resources;
  • Training needs analysis of the Yemeni banking sector;
  • Development and implementation of priority in-service training courses;
  • Development of standardized skills’ profiles and corresponding curriculum.

The expert team consisted of one LT Resident Advisor supported with a pool of specialised ST expertise.
