Detailed description of project Back

In line with the interventions already carried out in the framework of the Structural Adjustment Programme, the project aims at:

  • Strengthening of planning and management capacity of the Regional Directorates of Basic Education and Alphabetisation, key issue for the successful implementation of the decentralization process;
  • Improvement of the quality of teaching through teacher training, up-grading ofdidactic equipment and improvement of living conditions of teachers in rural areas;
  • Development of an education system including the alphabetisation of youngsters in the non-formal Centres for Basic Education, with emphasis on the preparation fora working career;
  • Support to school canteens.

The strategy adopted consists of mobilizing all those concerned in the local education system and of the dynamism of the education system on regional level in order. This to allow the introduction of active methods, to familiarize rural communities with regular school life and to restore confidence in primary education. The project interventions are focused on rural areas where the school attendanceis very low and where no other project interventions have been undertaken.

PROMAN provided the following experts:

  • Long term expert in basic education and alphabetisation;
  • Long term expert in financial management;
  • Short term expert in self-teaching;
  • Short term expert in production of didactic material with local resources.

PROMAN HQ ensured overall backstopping and technical management support.
