Expertise

PROMAN has gained a leading position as a supplier of high quality services in a number of core sectors. Principal areas of specialisation relate to human and social development and governance.

Regional cooperation Back

Regional cooperation programmes foster (sub)-regional integration leading to economic growth and poverty alleviation as well as the development of “South-South” country relations. PROMAN works with various regional organisations providing support with the implementation of regional programmes fostering regional economic integration or addressing common challenges such as the sustainable management of natural resources.

The concept of regional economic integration implies that nations within a geographical region come together in some type of partnership to foster trade and development. Over recent years, PROMAN has been assisting various Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and other regional partners in Africa in their efforts to achieve greater economic integration. Core areas of support include:

  • Institutional capacity building
  • Improved and harmonised policies and legal and institutional frameworks
  • Monitoring and evaluating the process of regional integration at both regional and national levels
  • Trade development
  • Statistics
  • Resource mobilisation strategies
  • Supporting regional aid effectiveness initiatives including the alignment of national and regional strategies

PROMAN provides management support to regional organisations for the implementation of regional programmes on specific thematic areas addressing common challenges. Partners include African Union (AU), Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), East African Community (EAC), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), as well as joint institutions such as the ACP Secretariat. Thematic areas include sustainable management of natural resources, energy, environment, higher education, science and technology.
