The global objective of the project of which this contract will be a part is to provide young people with more equitable opportunities for completing good quality secondary education and skills. More specifically, the project addresses areas of equitable access, quality and relevance and governance and management of secondary education

The specific objective of this assignment is to undertake an individual assessment of selected Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSSs), technical workshops in these CDSSs, cluster centre resource rooms, boarding facilities for female students in district boarding schools, focusing on the evaluation of their needs in terms of rehabilitation and construction of new infrastructure according to the given standards.


General description of the position:

  • Facilitate the followings activities: -assessment of the identified sites;
  • Assessments to include existing structures, ground conditions, water table, soil composition, power availability/proximity, road accessibility and all other relevant analyses critical for the project;
  • Review of existing designs for all structures of the schools including associated external works. Undertake thorough acquaintance with relevant project sites and design/drawings documentation provided by EIMU;
  • Updating detailed designs for all structures, associated external works, and where appropriate make the necessary improvements based on prevailing site conditions for the selected schools;
  • Elaboration of architectural, structural and electrical design for the schools and associated external works;
  • Adaptation of the designs to include cross cutting issues such as gender, environment and special needs for people with disabilities;
  • Production of Bills of Quantities and preliminary cost estimates for the works for each site and drafting of works tender dossiers;
  • Approval process for environmental and social management assessment report.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Preferably, a postgraduate degree in Architecture or Structural Engineering;
  • An additional qualification in Project Management and Technical Audit will be an added advantage;
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills;
  • Proven experience of supervisory role or team management of experts;
  • Ability to work in a multi- cultural teams and flexibility in working styles.

General professional experience:

  • A minimum of 12-years professional experience.

Specific professional experience:

  • At least 8 years working experience in designing of buildings and reviewing existing designs;
  • Expertise in the use of relevant design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and graphic software;
  • Experience working with EDF procedures;
  • Experience in working in the Sub-Saharan region will be an added advantage.

Language skills:

  • Excellent report writing skills in English.
