Detailed description of project Back

The general objective of the project is the improvement of living conditions and the respect of children’s rights in Benin. The specific object is the support to the fight against child trafficking and exploitation. In particular the project’s objective is to set up a Central Technical Assistance Office (“Bureau Central d’Assistance Technique” – BCAT) with a coordinator, three assistants, one accountant and supporting staff in charge of implementing the activities necessary to achieve the objectives mentioned above, under the supervision of a Steering Committee.

In particular the following activities will be implemented:

  • Strengthening of the institutional mechanisms for the fight against child trafficking (support to the coordination efforts started by the Government and implementation of the available judicial means to help the promotion of children’s rights;
  • Fight against the structural causes of child trafficking and exploitation through the set-up and management of a fund for civil society organisations (Call for Proposals);
  • Improvement of living conditions and development of the professional capacities of children working on the Dantokpa market in Cotonou, of the Arzeke market in Parakou, at the market in Malanville.

Moreover the BCAT will be responsible for the following during the project implementation:

  • Set-up and support to the functioning of a regional coordination frame in the north of the country;
  • Regular supervision of the implementation of the program and secretarial work for the Steering Committee;
  • Control and accounting for programme estimates.

Type of services provided

PROMAN and B&S Europe provide the services of the TA team of 5 long-term experts:

  • Coordinator (Team Leader) (40 m/m);
  • Assistant Coordinator, tasked with the aspects related to the strengthening of the institutional mechanisms for the fight against trafficking (40 m/m);
  • Assistant Coordinator tasked with support and advice to the project stakeholders and supervision of activities on the market of Dantokpa at Cotonou (40 m/m);
  • Assistant Coordinator tasked with the support and advice to the project stakeholders and the supervision of activities on the market of Malanville and coordination activities in the north of the country (35 m/m);
  • Accountant (40 m/m).
