Detailed description of project Back

The overall objective of the Third Phase of this Sustainable Development Project is to substantially reduce the poverty in the Kidal Region, more specifically to improve access to quality social services and income generating economic opportunities. The project is concentrating on four results:

  • Capacity of Local Communities to plan and manage public services and economic development improved;
  • Access to Quality Vocational Education and Training and insertion in the labour market, specifically for the youth of the region;
  • Access to qualitysanitary services and drinking water;
  • Improvement and development of pastoral production in order to ensure food security and household incomes.

The Project strategy is based on a better understanding and respect for nomadic character of the population. Advanced implementation strategies are anchored in urban centres in the region: Anefis, Kidal, Aguel Hoc, Abeibara et Tessalit from where they are extended over the region.

The main components of the Programme revolve around themes that emerged as major axes to be included in the scheme of the spatial development planning of the region but also within the framework of the Poverty Reduction Strategy and Sector Policies of the Government of Mali.

Type of services provided

PROMAN, manages the project on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg and is responsible for the implementation of all activities.

Extensive national, regional and international technical assistance is provided under the project, including 9 long-term experts based in Kidal. PROMAN also provides support for short term experts in various fields.

The backstopping is provided by a PROMAN team.

The partner company Hydro R&D is exclusively involved in the hydraulic component of the project.
